Three United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton passed away following a high-speed crash that left a fourth Marine critically injured. The single car accident involving a Dodge Stratus occurred on Golden Lantern Street in Dana Point at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree near Terra Vista.
The firefighters that responded to the accident were able to cut a passenger and the driver from the wreck of the vehicle. They were taken to the nearby Mission Hospital. The passenger passed away soon after arriving at the hospital while the driver remains in critical condition. The two other young men were declared dead at the scene of the accident.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the men were all their early 20′s.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and fellow Marines of the deceased. Driving at high speeds at night when a driver may be tired can have tragic consequences.
